تمكنت الجهات الأمنية بالدمام من إحباط محاولة تنفيذ عملية تفجير إرهابي يستهدف المصلين بجامع العنود حيث تمكن رجال الأمن من الاشتباه بسيارة في موقف للسيارات وعند توجههم إليها وقع انفجار في السيارة ما أسفر عن مقتل أربعة أشخاص يعتقد أن أحدهم هو قائد السيارة بالإضافة إلى اشتعال النيران في مجموعة من السيارات الأخرى .
من جهته صرح المتحدث الامني لوزارة الداخلية بأن الجهات الامنية تمكنت بفضل الله وتوفيقه من إحباط محاولة تنفيذ جريمة إرهابية لإستهداف المصلين بجامع العنود بمدينة الدمام وذلك أثناء أداءهم لصلاة الجمعة ، حيث تمكن رجال الامن من الاشتباه بسيارة عند توجهها إلى مواقف السيارات المجاورة للمسجد وعن توجههم اليها وقع إنفجار في السيارة نتح عنه مقتل (٤) أشخاص يُعتقد أن أحدهما على الأقل كان قائد السيارة ، وإشتعال نيران في عدد من السيارات . وقد باشرت الجهات الامنية في إستكمال اجراءات الضبط الجنائي والتحقيق فيه ، وسيصدر بيان إلحاقي بالتفاصيل ، ولا يزال الحادث محل المتابعة الامنية.
